Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, has launched the distribution of 40,000 goats worth over ₦5 billion to women across the state as part of an initiative to boost livestock farming and economic development.

The distribution ceremony took place on Monday, February 17, 2025, with selected women from 361 wards in the state benefiting from the program. Each beneficiary received three female goats, one male goat, a bag of animal feed, and mineral salt.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda emphasized that the program was designed to empower women economically. Beneficiaries are expected to return a portion of their livestock once they multiply so that others can benefit. He assured that the selection process was fair and carried out by local community development committees.

“This initiative aims to support women in livestock farming, easing financial burdens on their families and boosting economic stability,” Radda stated.

Additionally, the governor announced plans to construct a modern slaughterhouse in the state at a cost of over ₦10 billion to enhance meat production for local consumption and export.

Governor Radda urged beneficiaries to utilize the resources responsibly, reminding them that the livestock provided belonged to the public and should be safeguarded.

Hon. Yusuf Suleman Jibia, the governor’s special adviser on livestock, reaffirmed that the initiative was a fulfillment of Radda’s promise to improve the livelihoods of Katsina residents.

Community leaders, including Dr. Kamal Shamsudeen, the Chairman of Community Development, and the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk, commended the government’s effort.

The event, held in Dannakola town, drew a large crowd, including the APC Chairman in Katsina State, Alhaji Sani JB Daura, a representative of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Babani Isa, state and local government officials, and community members.
